"bloomers")
The so-called "harem pants" are characterized by a particular cut, which is more tightly around the ankles and calfs and soft and cuffy at the top. The final effect is similar to a skirt. As the name implies, these pants are from South-West Asia: known as the "salvars", they have been for centuries one of the most popular traditional clothes and they were used by both men and women. Introduced into Western culture in the middle of XIXth Century, these pants were worn by most progressive women under clothes during sports and physical activities and they were known as "the bloomers". The harem pants have been relegated to women's sportswear until the late 80's, when they were brought into the mainstream by the American rapper MC Hammer, who made them a symbol of the decade. In autumn 2009, harem pants have come back. With brand new shapes, fabrics and colors, matched with high heeled shoes, and combined with the geometric Balmain blazers, the harem pants were turned into a chic and elegant, sexy and feminine must have . Harem pants divided fashionistas and fashion editors: some of them are huge fans of this kind of trousers, others are horrified by them. In my opinion these pants are a good compromise between confort and elegance and the last version, made up of patterned and extra light fabrics, can defenetely make an outfit, as you can see in the pictures of this post. I'm leaving for Berlin in a couple of hours...and baggages are not ready at all.
Hope to be able to post in the next days!
See you soon!
A presto!
This is the Year of Wedges. This pair of Topshop lace up tan booties, already seen here during the Milan FW Fashion Week, are stunning. They remind me of Chloé lace up wedges of the FW 2010 Collection seen soo soo many times outside the Fashion Shows in February.
Here another classic of the sunglasses galaxy: the Aviator.
The classic Aviator model was in born in 1936 and legend claims that the need arose for aviator-style sunglasses because military pilots found that sun and glare protection would be helpful to aid them during day missions.
The popularity of the glasses sky-rocketed as many celebrities began wearing the style of sunglasses. The style has been popular since the 1960s, but became even more so in the 1980s following pop culture references concerning Michael Jackson and use by celebrities in films like Top Gun, where Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise sported them.
I had my mirror Aviator period too, even if now I'm tourning to more feminine shapes, diva-like style.
But I have to admit that everytime I cross someone with a pair of them in the street I find myself thinking "She/he's soo cool!".
Another great sample of a great extra simple look.
This girl defenetely has style!
The white tee matched with the leather shorts and a pair of swinging London like booties...she rocks!
And, for the fourth time in a few months, cat eye sunglasses again!
Other cat-eyes here, here and here.
Here another great example of lace-up sandals.
Already seen here, this time they're THE lace-up boots from Ann Demeulmeester.
She launched the very first open lace-up sandals in her SS 2009 collection, and they istantely sold out.
They're defenetely weird, and a lot of people don't like them at all, but I think this is an interesting model that can make an outfit.
P.S. Look at the fluo green nailpolish!Isn't that amazing??!
Bisous
What girlfriends are for?
Tons of things.
Laughing 'till death, midnight chitchatting, encouraging hugs, insane barefoot dancing in the kictchen, singing loud completely wasted. And shopping, of course.
While you'll be reading this post I'll be flying to Paris with one of my best friend / ex-flatmate for a week end full of pains au chocolat, macarons, crepes au sucre, marché aux puces, vintage shops and .....sales! And another one of us is going to reach us on Friday afternoon.
See you when I'll be back from this 100% girly week end!
I hope to take milions of pictures!
Bisous
After ankle lenght skirts, headscarfves are another HUGE must of the Summer 2010.
We've seen great examples on The Sartorialist, Hanneli, Garance, and on hundreds of outfit blogs.
I love how this pretty girl made the headscarf look like a pair of lovely, brown bunny ears.
This add an ironic touch to the total black extra dramatic outfit.
I've met this girl visiting the Sforzesco Castle in Milan.
The contrast between the very contemporary almost optycal defenetely geometrical pattern of her outfit and the medieval environment.
And the vintage Missoni purse had one of the most beautiful fabric that the italian maison had ever made!
When I was a child I desperately desired having blue eyes.
Now that I'm a grown up, I learnt to accept my light brown eyes but I'm still convinced that a pair of blue eyes is the best accessory to every outfit.
Look at this girl:isn't she pretty? Without her blue eyes the gorgeus ankle lenght striped dress wouldn't be the same.
In my opinion, this is a pretty hairstyle, versatile but elegant. It adds a smart touch to an everyday outfit.
Like the one of this girl.
The outfit is pretty simple, made up of a Liberty pattern shirt, grey skinny jeans and black rock booties, but the braid adds the je-ne-sais-quoi that makes the look special.
I promise, this is not another post on redheads.
Let's talk about long skirts.
This season they're back, everyone in the blogosphere is wearing a maxi dress or a maxi skirt.
The one of this girl is perfect to me.
Perfect lenght, a little bit pleated nut not toon much, vintage but extremely contemporary.
She matched it pretty simple with a white cotton top and a pair of black gladiators + vintage Wayfarers.
Jumpsuite, symbol of the Golden 80's, came back the last seasons and instantly became a masterpiece in everygirl's wordrobe.
The one of the girl above is particularly interesting.
The delicate colour perfectly matches the dramatic batwing shape.
As seen here and here, I'm deeply in love with this glasses shape, called "cat eye".
After the fabulous Audrey wore them in Breakfast at Tiffany they've become one of the most famous glasses shape ever.
Recently Linda Farrow re-edited them with a futuristic touch for Alexander Wang AW collection and many celebreties (as the gorgeus Taylor Tomasi and Gala of Am-lul's Closet) have been seen at fashion shows wearing them.
Looking back at the past posts of this blog, I've noticed a weird coincidence: the huge increase of red head young ladies.
I've already said it before: I LOVE redheads!
But it's not all about personal preferences...
The lady above is a typical example.
Even if she wasn't wearing anything special (striped shirt, camel shorts, socks + high heeled suede booties and a pair of squared vintage rayban) she simply stood out from the crowd.
And what about you? What do you think about redheads?
